Hugh Masekela 'Stimela'

Hope against a backdrop of social injustice
'Stimela' (Coal Train) is the track that Hugh Masekela will probably be best remembered for as it encompasses all of his work both lyrically and musically. Such is the significance of 'Stimela' as it addresses the theme of hope against a backdrop of social injustice, central to South African modern history, a history still marked by decades of 'apartheid'.

Suthukazi Arosi | 'Black and White'

Calling on all human beings
BLACK AND WHITE is a song about us - human beings with all the hatred that has turned against all humanity for centuries. Civilized as we are but still dwelling on racism. God created us all with love and so beautifully without seeing any colour but embracing colour as his creation. The song is calling on all human beings to stop this mentality that is tearing us up - and our beautiful planet

Evolving Into The Mainstream | A Review of Ugoccie’s ‘Man on Fire’

Evolving Into The Mainstream
Ugoccie releases 'Man on Fire', a song off her EP, 'A Piece of Me'. Ugoccie’s ‘Man on Fire’ comes as something fresh and refreshing – completely out of the box. Most striking is the realisation that the song kicks off with the narration of a story – storytelling being a vital quality of a traditional entertainer. This attribute of the song makes listening to ‘Man on Fire’ a serious business.

The Lucky One
Some tracks run out of steam after the 3 minute mark, not this one! The song starts of with a gentle rhythm guitar and beat which are smoothly picked up by Ogoo’s voice as she leads us into the song proper. Ogoo’s vocal tone is confident and tuneful. Even at high pitches, her vocal quality retains its consistency. There is no mistaking in the feeling she puts into her performance.
